Southpoint Surgery Center

This new multi-specialty 22,000 sq. ft. surgery center is situated on 3 levels of a brand new contemporary medical office building in the Southpoint area of Durham, NC. It accommodates the following: Ortho, Spine, Ophthalmology, ENT, GYN, General, Urology, Plastics, Podiatry, Vascular, and Pain.

SV Design provided full interior design services including Interior Design Construction Documents, finish selections, artwork, furniture, and signage specifications.

For a surgery center providing state of the art services, it was important that the interiors reflect that. It was also vital that a complementary aesthetic to the existing building architecture be achieved. This was accomplished through black metal accents , a contemporary white and blue palette, and warm grey wood tones. Upon entering the waiting room, visitors are welcomed by a large offset reception desk accented with a beautiful white quartz slab with soft grey veining. Insets of carpet in an organic pattern as well as light blue seating fabrics work to soften the space. A group of suspended circular lighting fixtures give interest to the ceilings, without overwhelming the space. Light wood flooring continues throughout the Waiting Room beyond to a wide corridor with a nurse’s station and five recovery rooms. These rooms showcase a soft contrast in white, light blues and custom dark woodgrain detailing. A translucent backlit decorative panel behind each bed, provides visual interest along with a unique solution for accent lighting. The 2nd floor features 2 O.R.’s, 4 Procedure Rooms, Pre-Op and Recovery bays, a staff lounge, locker rooms, a Sub-Waiting area and 3 consult rooms. The Pre-Op and PACU areas feature full glass windows at most bays, which, with window shades, offers staff and patients the opportunity to bring in natural light, a welcome option to a typically interior space. Soft wood tones continue through the space as well, with a darker wood nurse’s station and blue accents brought in through paints and cubicle curtains.
