In 2001, Urban Housing Solutions acquired Rex Courts (formerly Budget Lodge) and began converting the three existing hotel buildings into affordable apartments. During construction, the Building 200 suffered major fire damage and was subsequently demolished, leaving two buildings (Buildings 100 and 300) with 96 total renovated one-bedroom apartments. Since renovation, Rex Courts has been home to individuals making less than50% of the area median income (AMI), with some units reserved for people overcoming homelessness or mental health challenges. In order to further the UHS mission to provide affordable housing in Nashville, the development team is undertaking the expansion of this property with a new construction building on the site of the original Building 200. This new building, called “Rex2”, will serve as a potential relocation opportunity for current residents at Mercury Courts, UHS’s original property on Murfreesboro Pike.
